STUDENT COUNCIL CONSTITUTION
 

I.         Name of the Organization

This organization shall be known as the Student Council of Guardian Angels School, located in West Point, Nebraska.
 

II.        Purpose of the Organization

The purpose of this organization shall be

to uphold and demonstrate the Christian values of the school

to promote good leadership

to be of service to the community of West Point

to plan activities that deal with issues of Peace and Justice

to uphold school pride and plan social events for the student body

III.        Student Council Members

The Student Body of Guardian Angels School, grades four through eight, will elect the Student Council annually which will serve as school representatives. Students from grades four, five, six, seven, and eight will be eligible to run for Student Council Members. No one individual may serve more than two consecutive terms.

IV.       Qualities and Duties of Class Representatives

Class Representatives: Two from each homeroom grades 4-8.  Must have a “C” or higher academic average.

1.      Duties:

a.   Communicates the events of the Student Council meeting to their class.

b.   Takes charge of student suggestions.

c.   Brings up any suggestions, ideas etc. to the Council.

d.   Serve on any committees if needed.

2.      Campaigning:

a.   Any student interested, that fits the qualifications, can run for Council or office.  Students sign an official nomination form in their homerooms.

b.   Campaigners may place signs and posters around displaying what qualities they have and why they would like to be elected.

3.      Elections

a.   On a specified date each candidate will need to give a small speech to their class.

b.   On election day, each homeroom will vote by secret ballot for one candidate. The candidates receiving the most votes will be the class representatives. The student with the next highest votes will be the alternate and attend the meetings when a representative is absent or when called to attend by the president.

c.   At the first meeting of the Student Council the representatives will vote for the officers of their organization.

 

V.         Qualifications and Duties of the Officers

A.   President

  1. Qualifications:
    1. Must be an eighth grader
    2. Must have a “C” or higher academic average
  2. Duties:
    1. Will supervise Student Body activities
    2. Presides over all meetings of the Student Council
    3. Votes in case of a tie

B.     Vice-President

  1. Qualifications:
    1. Must be a seventh or eighth grader
    2. Must have a "C" or higher academic average
  2. Duties:
    1. Serves in the absence of the President
    2. Aids in helping out the President

C.     Secretary

  1. Qualifications:
    1. Must be a seventh or eighth grader
    2. Must have a "C" or higher academic average
  2. Duties:
    1. Keeps records of meetings
    2. Prepares any thank-you's that may be needed
    3. Makes copies of minutes to give to faculty           

D.    Historian   

  1. Qualifications:
    1. Must be a seventh or eighth grader
    2. Must have a "C" or higher academic average
  2. Duties:
    1. Acts as the photographer for the Student council
    2. Maintains a photo log of events for the year

E.     Treasurer

  1. Qualifications:
    1. Must be a seventh or eighth grader
    2. Must have a "C" or higher academic average
  2. Duties:
    1. Handles money, keeps records and receipts
    2. Reports on money matters to the council
