TECHNOLOGY
Guardian
Angels received a grant from the Dinklage Foundation in
1999, which allowed the school to move forward with
technology. Resources provided through the grant
allowed a classroom to be remodeled into a computer lab
equipped with twenty-five internet-ready computers. As
part of the grant each classroom in G. A. was also
provided with an internet-ready computer. Funding from
this grant also allowed G. A. to become networked. In
addition to the Dinklage Funds, The Spanish Challenge
Grant has provide G. A. with computers, so each
classroom is now equipped with three computers.
A certified
computer teacher became part of the G. A. staff in
1999. This position was added so all students in grades
K-8 would have computer instruction. Each grade attends
regularly scheduled classes once a week. Classroom
teachers also schedule additional lab times throughout
the week to work on various projects connected the
different curriculum areas.
In grades
K-3, computer software and the Internet are used to
integrate technology into the curriculum. Keyboarding
skills are first taught in 4th grade and continue
throughout 5th grade. During computer classes for
grades 6-8, students are instructed in word processing,
spreadsheets, graphs, presentation software, and
Internet use skills. These skills are taught to the
students because they are effective tools in their
educational process.
Through the
Holiday Tech Dance,
sponsored jointly by the school boards from Guardian
Angels and Central Catholic,
G. A. receives money each year to continually update and
bring new technology to our school.
